Biography

What has been surprising to you about your host community?

I was surprised by Mexico City's entrepreneurial ecosystem possessing such a sense of vibrancy and ambition. I feel blessed to be among people deeply committed to solving high-impact problems. In particular, my interactions with companies in the agriculture technology and food technology sectors have opened my eyes to, for example, the immense need for nutrient-dense foods that have a minimally negative impact on the environment. Also, the timing for starting companies in Latin America feels like a goldilocks zone, as competition remains minimal and information is opaque but opportunities are abundant with international capital funneling in year after year.

What one piece of advice would you give to applicants?

I would really nail down your "why". As in, why are you applying to be a Fulbright Scholar? Why are you applying to the particular program? Is it because you have a deep-seated connection to the space? To the work? Is this a newfound and rapidly growing connection? For me, understanding why I was applying and then holding a strong conviction during the process helped me remain committed and allowed me to dedicate many hours to my application while thoroughly appreciating the challenge that is the process and the patience it demands.

Lagniappe

"Many Fulbright Scholars choose this path precisely because it is unconventional... because it will provide a range of life and career outcomes previously outside the realm of possibilities prior to having had the unique experience of being a Fulbrighter. If this sounds like you, someone who does not fit the mold and is seeking an unconventional career and life journey, this may be the path for you."
